The GRG121EX is an RG series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in 2015. It is made in China as part of the entry-level GIO line. This model replaces an earlier version.
This GRG121EX differs from earlier versions in that it has only a single knob (for volume) and a 3-way pickup selector toggle as well as a poplar body. Earlier versions had a tone control and a 3-way lever selector with a basswood body.
The GRG121EX features a poplar body bolted to a maple neck with a 24-fret rosewood fretboard with dot position markers. Components include a fixed bridge and dual Ibanez Infinty R humbucking pickups.
For 2018 the rosewood fretboard was replaced with treated New Zealand pine.
The GRG121SP is a version available only in 2015 which had a cheetah-patterned pickguard. The GRG121EXS is a similar model with a decorative top. The GRG121EXSM is a similar model with a spalted maple top.
The GRG121EX was discontinued after 2018
